On Purpose Kisses

any given moment  anything to do with my now 8 month old little lady goes like this:

 ( Cue robot voice)
New...object...in view....
Must... compute
Must...gather... data

And Then into the data-gathering chamber it goes, I.E. , her mouth. Eye glasses, phone, the rubber ball, the tv remote, her own unsuspecting naked foot; must all pass "gum"-spection.

In this regard it is sensible to think that her wide gaping mouth closing in on the prey that happens to be my cheek or lips, fall into the this-is-just-routine category.
 Until recently.

Recently there has been a slight change. There has been a spidery fingered palming of the face and neck; then a purposeful pulling forward of the head; then what follows is the most tensive, slow, deliberate, connection of lip to face- a pause, a deep breathing, a gummy grin. There is deep sense of achievement as she pulls away eyes beaming, ready to fly out of my arms to now go taste test the  keys someone just dropped on the table beside us. As if to say

" Now who's next?"
